1. Tell us your story. How did Hopscotch Travel get started?
Hopscotch was made by young people, for young people. We’re hard workers, problem solvers, and team players who are incredibly passionate about helping young people carve out their own unique path. We are here to help you find the opportunity that is right for you and get you on the path to success. Because really, who among us isn’t a little bit lost?

One of the coolest success stories at Hopscotch is the awesome journey of sending our travellers overseas and welcoming them back to South Africa with new skills, empowered spirits, and employable.

5. What was your motivation to join WYSE Travel Confederation?
- Industry networking: WYSE provides extensive networking opportunities, allowing Hopscotch to connect with professionals, organisations, and partners in the field. This can lead to collaborations, partnerships, and valuable industry insights.
- Market research and data: Access to WYSE’s research and data on youth and student travel trends can help you make informed business decisions and stay up to date with industry developments.
- Global reach: WYSE is a global organisation, which means you can expand Hopscotch’s reach to international markets and connect with a diverse range of clients and partners.
- Industry events: Access to industry events, conferences, and workshops where Hopscotch can gain insights, attend seminars, and exchange ideas with experts.
- Global impact: Being part of WYSE allows you to contribute to the positive impact of youth and student travel on personal development, education, and cultural exchange, which benefits young travellers worldwide.
6. Have you attended a WYSE Travel Confederation event (WYSTC, STAY WYSE, WETM-IAC)? If so, what was your experience with the event?
Yes, Hopscotch participated in the Lisbon WYSTC event last September. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with current collaborators and explore potential new partnerships.
7. What is an industry challenge your organisation is facing currently?
- Overflux of competitors: The market is experiencing a saturation of competitors, making it increasingly challenging to stand out and offer unique value. This high level of competition necessitates a greater focus on differentiation and innovation in our services.
- Demographic with limited access to capital/finance: A significant portion of the South African population, particularly the younger demographic, faces limitations in accessing capital or finance. While they may have the desire to work and travel overseas, the financial barriers can be a significant hurdle. This demographic typically seeks cost-effective solutions, requiring us to find ways to provide affordable opportunities without compromising quality.
