1. What makes Discova different from your competitors?
People: in all of our destinations, we use local people to create and manage our products. By doing that, we ensure we will provide our clients the best authentic local experience in destinations.
Also, working directly with the local community for almost 20 years already and together with them, building up community led tourism, provide training for them and sending our clients to their communities are making us really different compared with our competitors.
2. What is your favourite success story from your organisation?
We have been successfully set up and run community led tourism programs in six countries: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and our newest one is Costa Rica. Gaining trust from the community step by step and work alongside with them to support them and they can have more income from tourism are what we are very proud of. Besides that, all of the experience that our clients can have at the communities are unique, they cant have that anywhere.
3. Which trends do you see in educational and active youth travel?
They would prefer to travel to remote locations, live a local life and learning through the experience that they can have with the local people. They want to put their hands on more experiences and have the urge to try new things out of their comfort zone.
4. How do you work to ensure the health and safety of young travellers involved with Discova?
At Discova, safety is always the top priority for us. For any of the services and products that we use, it will be fully audited by our Contract/product and Health and Safety team. We are using a standard format to ensure that would be a safe program to run for our clients. Our guides and staff are also well trained about this so for all of the activities, they will well brief our clients in advance.
5. What was your motivation to join WYSE Travel Confederation?
WYSE is a great playground for networking with Youth & Educational Travel Professionals all over the world. We wanted to be part of WYSE and together with WYSE member create meaningful impact through the power of travel.
6. Have you attended a WYSE Travel Confederation event (WYSTC, STAY WYSE, WETM-IAC)? If so, what was your experience with the event?
WYSTC was a well-organized event, at which a seller like us not only has the chance to network with many potential buyers and suppliers in the educational travel segment but also fulfilled my ideas for educational products. Moreover, the seminars with the great speakers were also another highlight because I learnt from their experience and can reflect on what we are doing and what we could do. It was an exciting and fruitful event for us.
