Youth Travel Accommodation

Launched in 2007, the STAY WYSE youth travel accommodation research programme has become the most comprehensive source of intelligence about the global youth travel accommodation (YTA) industry. STAY WYSE research focuses on YTA business operations, outcomes and trends in order to establish useful metrics for this dynamic segment of travel accommodation.

The STAY WYSE Youth Travel Accommodation Industry Flash Survey series of reports are based on short surveys covering relevant topics in youth travel accommodation, offering youth accommodation providers, booking engines, investors and others interested in this popular sector of tourism current information in order to assess where they fit in the marketplace, ancillary revenue, marketing strategies, and strategic positioning to gain an edge on the competition.

Beyond the Bed examines ancillary revenue for accommodation operators. The report presents results of a survey of youth travel accommodation (YTA) providers and their ancillary revenue sources, while also looking at broader trends in other related industries.

Booking Sources

Booking Sources is based on global data collected in March – April 2015 from youth travel accommodation providers about their booking sources.The survey asked questions about booking channels, online travel agents (OTAs), wholesalers, tour operators and industry trade events during 2014.

The report provides analysis and comparisons based on accommodation type, size, location and region and covers:

– Top booking sources for hostels
– The importance of direct booking for hostels
– Groups and social media bookings
– Which OTAs get the most YTA bookings
– Comparisons of Booking.com, Hostelworld, Hostelling International, Expedia, and Airbnb

Youth Travel Accommodation Industry Survey Volume 7
FRONT_REAL

STAY (Safe Travel Accommodation for Youth) WYSE Association, the global trade body for the youth travel accommodation sector, has launched its seventh annual survey on youth travel accommodation trends.

Our seventh annual report on youth travel accommodation trends is based on a survey of 2,231 Youth Travel Accommodation (YTA) operations across 100 countries. It includes findings across all aspects affecting the industry, from the average size and rates of properties to the social media habits and booking styles of their guests.

The businesses polled for the survey, conducted between May and October 2013, accounted for 136,899 beds. 62% of these properties were located in urban areas and 60% of respondents were hostels.

Our 2013 survey incorporated some considerable changes compared to the 2012 version; questions were, especially on finances, and new questions were added on pressing issues surrounding third party website bookings, third party website contracts and licensing issues.
