Research categories:Ā Accommodation, Trade

The youth travel market grew from 160 millionĀ international trips a year in 2005 to almost 200 million in 2011.Ā The growth of youth travel is reflected in theĀ increased supply and diversity of Youth TravelĀ Accommodation (YTA) around the globe. StemmingĀ from the original youth hostel product, the sectorĀ surveyed in this publication covers manyĀ different forms of accommodation aimed atĀ young travellers, including backpacker hostels,Ā guesthouses, budget hotels, student residencesĀ and campsites.
As the YTA sector grows in size and complexityĀ it becomes even more important to have reliableĀ and timely information on market trends andĀ developments. This report is the sixth in a seriesĀ of reports on the YTA industry produced by the former Sector Association STAYĀ WYSE.
Key takeaways

The 2011 survey provides more detailed informationĀ than previous reports, including newĀ questions on staffing, mobile applications andĀ future expansion plans. The quality of the financialĀ data has alsoĀ  been improved comparedĀ with previous years, and as the response rateĀ has risen the number of operators providing detailed financial information has also increased.
