Minding the Gap: How to prepare travellers for a healthy trip

Tullia Marcolongo – Executive Director, IAMAT

WYSTC 2017

What should the role of travel professionals be when it comes to a traveller’s physical and mental health and what resources exist for travel professionals to fulfil their role?

The International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers (IAMAT) will discuss how travel professionals can face the challenges of preparing young travellers for a healthy trip. The values, behaviours and attitudes of young travellers as far as travel health will be reviewed, along with key considerations for pre-trip travel health planning. Special focus will be given to issues relating to mental health and travel, such as accessing mental healthcare abroad, insurance coverage for mental health, disclosure and privacy considerations, and other challenges for travellers and travel professionals on this front.
