Session description

Women make up over 60% of the tourism industry and in many countries tourism is an opportunity for women to enter the formal economy, often gaining independence for the first time. In this talk, Kelly Galaski of Planeterra Foundation will look at how tourism can be a force to generate employment and empower women around the world.

Speaker

Kelly Galaski has 20 years of tourism experience across the for-profit and non-profit sectors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and a master’s degree in Environmental Studies in sustainable tourism development from York University in Toronto. She has 10 years of experience working in rural, underserved communities, creating social enterprise opportunities in tourism by connecting communities and local non-profits with the private sector. This includes working nine years with Planeterra, the non-profit partner of G Adventures, the world’s largest adventure travel brand, developing community tourism product. Currently Kelly is the Director of Global Programs for Planeterra overseeing the organization’s 70+ community tourism projects.
