Building bridges between the local and travel communities

Javier Amorós, Regional Director for Spain and Portugal, SANDEMANs New Europe

Wednesday, 4 March 12:00 – 12:30
Hall 4.1, Stand 117 (WYSE Workshop area)

Session description

Travel has always been about meeting new people, experiencing new places and understanding new cultures, but what happens if the residents of destinations become skeptical of the benefits of tourism? How do tourism organisations in highly popular destinations remind locals of the positive power of travel? In this workshop, we look at approaches for showing residents that the industry is listening, share concrete examples of how sustainability events can help build bridges between the local and travel communities, and reveal how to make internal operations flexible and resilient enough to survive in dynamic, uncertain and increasingly regulatory environments.

Speaker

Javier’s background is in law and political science, and he brings to the tourism industry key learnings developed from a career in both law firms and the public sector. Since moving into tourism five years ago, Javier has been intrigued by the opportunities and challenges that this dynamic market navigates, while being increasingly faced with new regulations. Javier relishes the challenge of helping tourism businesses to maintain and develop flexibility in order to succeed in this fast-changing environment.
