WYSE Travel Confederation Panel and Management Board elections

Over the last 12 months, with the world being turned upside-down, the challenges of running businesses in a pandemic have also reached deeply into the heart of associations the world over. Like many other associations, WYSE Travel Confederation has seen a large drop off in membership, with many companies prioritising their funds into essential services whilst others have, regrettably, ceased to exist.

This has posed a challenge to WYSE Travel Confederation in a number of ways, from the obvious reduction in membership income to the less obvious challenge of maintaining Board and Panel numbers to their requirements set out in our statutes.

In 2020 there were a number of Panel roles available, and despite calls for nominations being sent out directly to members and being announced in the WYSE Weekender, there were no valid responses. As a result, the election process was pushed forward to March 2021, with the intention of running elections in conjunction with WETM-IAC in Malta. With travel restrictions still in place, WETM-IAC was moved to a date in May and subsequently has been turned into an online conference.

However, the need for the Confederation to have member representation across all the sectors remains and so we will be holding an online election for all the vacant Panel and Board roles in June 2021. Currently the vacancies are:

Management Board – 1 seat from the Study Abroad Panel
Accommodation Panel  – 1 general seat
Cultural Exchange Panel – 2 general seats
Study Abroad Panel – 4 general seats and 1 chairperson
Travel Safety Panel – 1 general seat

If you are interested in applying for one of these vacant places, then please keep an eye out for the Call for Nominations which will be sent out in a few weeks.

Taking an active role in a Panel or in the Management Board helps to guide and develop our industry. The commitment from you is not huge, it generally works out to be about one or two hours per month, a little more if you become the Chair of a Panel or become part of the Management Board. You will need to be a voting member and to have been part of WYSE Travel Confederation for more than one year.

If you have any questions or you would like further details on any of the vacant positions, please feel free to contact me.
