ITB Berlin 2010Berlin, Germany — 10-14 March 2010
Whether it’s about design or a thematic exploration, what really sets hostels apart are the social spaces they offer travellers. Shared spaces within hostels are also opportunities to chill, meet like-minded travellers, pick up local intel and participate in activities and events. However, the traditional uses of shared spaces in hostels have changed and became multi-functional: think co-working spaces for digital nomads, yoga for backpackers and immersive media rooms, art exhibitions, or live music.
Designing and re-purposing social space is one of the most important factors in making a great hostel, therefore the Best Social Space in a Hostel award rewards the most creative, functional and interactive common areas in youth and student travel accommodation facilities.
The panel of judges will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:
- Facilities available to guests
- Interior design, creativity and space curation
- Functionality, including multi-functionality of the space
- Social activities, events and local community engagement
- Sustainable initiatives
Open to all youth travel accommodation providers.
