Welcome to our new member – Quest Africa
WYSE News | June 24, 2025

Founded in 2024, Quest Africa was created to meet a growing demand for meaningful, ethical, and adventurous travel. We blend cultural immersion, outdoor exploration, and community engagement – allowing travellers to connect deeply with Africa’s people, heritage, and natural beauty. From volunteering in local schools to supporting conservation efforts, our trips are designed to foster learning, leadership, and global citizenship, especially among young people.

What inspired the founding of Quest Africa – how did the idea for a purpose-driven travel company come to life?

Quest Africa was founded with a bold vision: to make travel a tool for transformation – for both young global travellers and the African communities they engage with. After years in development and youth leadership, we recognised a gap: students and early-career travellers were seeking immersive, purposeful experiences in Africa – but too often found tours that were transactional and disconnected. Quest was created to fill that gap, offering curated journeys that blend cultural immersion, learning, and real-world impact.

Tell us about the local businesses and partners you work with – how do you choose them?

We partner with local innovators, community leaders, educators, and small enterprises that are deeply rooted in their communities. Our primary criteria? Purpose alignment, local ownership, and a commitment to ethical and inclusive tourism. For example, we work with Ansa Africa, a Nairobi-based youth enterprise accelerator, and Gatura Greens, a family-run purple tea farm. We co-create each experience with our partners to ensure it’s enriching, sustainable, and mutually beneficial.

Can you share more about the tangible impact you’ve made so far (e.g., donated books, trees planted)?

Although we are in our early stages, our commitment to impact is already taking root. In our first immersive experience, we donated 200 storybooks to Kagarii Primary School in rural Murang’a, hosted a reading camp, and shared a meal with students – many from peasant farming families. The school has since identified key needs such as toilet facilities, digital tools, and a kitchen, and we’re mobilising supporters to help meet them. Every trip leaves a footprint of connection and care.

What makes travel such a powerful tool for youth development and global citizenship?

Travel, when done intentionally, is one of the most powerful classrooms. It builds cultural fluency, emotional intelligence, and a global perspective that no textbook can teach. At Quest Africa, we see young travellers grow in confidence, compassion, and leadership as they engage with real communities and challenges. It’s experiential learning at its best – fostering the kind of global citizenship the world needs now more than ever.
