WYSE News | November 12, 2024

The Australian and New Zealand youth tourism sector has awarded its highest honour, the Industry Legend Award, to Wendi Aylward, Managing Director of AIFS. This prestigious award celebrates individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the youth and adventure tourism industry in Australia and New Zealand.

Ms. Aylward, who attended the awards ceremony, expressed her gratitude for the recognition: “I am truly humbled to be acknowledged by my peers. This award reflects the incredible mentors I’ve had along the way, my dedicated team, and the unwavering support from AIFS’ executive leadership.”

Approaching her 20th year with AIFS in January, Ms. Aylward has spent over 30 years in youth tourism, with past roles at CIEE and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She co-founded the Australian Internship Industry Association (AIIA) and the Au Pair Industry Association (CAPAA), which she chaired for six years.

She also served as chairperson for BYTAP from 2022 until recently stepping down to dedicate more time to her family and to focus on AIFS’ expanding Australian operations.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of AIFS, adding yet another milestone for Ms. Aylward. Despite these achievements, she has no intention of slowing down. “Youth tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors and holds tremendous potential. Like many in this field, I will continue to advocate for the expansion of the Working Holiday Maker scheme and for the importance of cultural exchange. I am honoured to be recognized in a field and a role that I am so passionate about.”
