Internsplus, a Business All Stars accredited company based in Dublin, is continuing to provide vital work experience for students via a range of virtual internships.
Global travel restrictions have forced interns to return to their home countries, and incoming interns to cancel their travel plans. In short, COVID-19 is deeply affecting the standard internship model. “The fallout from the outbreak has disrupted the traditional summer learning experience and turned it upside down, delayed or outright cancelled internship for many students,” said Magaret Purdy, Education Programme Manager at Internsplus.
As uncertainties regarding international movement continue to affect the long-term facilitation of internships, Internsplus has acted quickly by exploring the possibility of virtual work placements. The team began to canvas host organisations in Ireland to gauge reactions to the idea of remote placements, and the response received has been overwhelmingly positive.
Utilising video conferencing technology, Internsplus interviews potential interns and provides opportunities to meet with a host company. Internships run for a duration of 4 to 12 weeks, during which students benefit from virtual interview experience and mentorship, CV reviews and a certificate of completion and reference at the end of the internship.
Internsplus now has a broad portfolio of virtual internship placements available within such sectors as sales and marketing, IT, graphic design and journalism.
