Welcome to our newest member – AIP Language Institute

May 29, 2018

Interview with Michelle LomeΓ±a – International Relations Officer

Tell us your story. How did AIP Language Institute get started?

Advisers for International Programs in Spain (AIP) was founded in Valencia, Spain twenty years ago as a bridge between Valencian and North American universities. AIP arranged the university courses, housing, trips and extracurricular activities for US students studying abroad in Valencia. AIP is a pioneer in Valencia as one of the first Language Institutes offering study abroad programs for North American universities in Valencia, Spain.

What makes AIP Language Institute different from your competitors?

AIP is not only a language institute in Spain, it’s a study abroad host provider offering a full cultural immersion experience. Preparing young adult students to succeed in academic and professional life is our motivation, and our hands-on approach helps students feel confident with the local culture.

What is your favourite success story from your organisation?

By far our favourite success story is that for over twenty years we have maintained an amazing bond with the largest comprehensive system of universities, colleges, and community colleges in the United States, State University of New York. Yearly, we continue to receive students as a study abroad provider for University at Albany campus, for their semester and summer programs.

What can we expect to see from AIP Language Institute in the future?

AIP has been growing significantly ever since its foundation, and as a result, we’ve been able to form a team of over sixty professionals dedicated to multicultural teaching.
For the future, we are expecting to maintain a stable and constant growth, in which we are open to expanding new relationships with new providers. And, as always, maintaining our high standard of quality.
We have also recently launched our online courses which have shown a great success. Drop by our page and take a look: https://online.spanishinvalencia.com/

Which trends do you see in educational and active youth travel?

Without a doubt, the top trend we are noticing is students seeking professional growth experiences abroad with internship programs. Nowadays, young travellers are looking to expand their language skills throughout job placements in which they can learn new soft skills whilst improving their fluency. We offer more than 250 placements in local companies and our on-site staff members guide the intern throughout the whole program.
Young travellers are driven by the feeling of adventure, not just learning a language, but actually living the culture.

How do you work to ensure the health and safety of young travellers involved with AIP Language Institute?

We are proud to say that Valencia is a very safe city, surprisingly so – for its size. Even the petty crime is low. However, we abide by a very strict code of conduct and expect our students to be monitored at all times. Therefore, we have a 24-hour/7 days a week hotline number managed by our on-site staff in case of an emergency and additionally, we offer health insurance for those who require/request it. Six hospitals in the Region of Valencia have been awarded these past years with up to eleven Best In Class Awards for the best hospital services.

What was your motivation to join WYSE Travel Confederation?

The opportunity to form part of the elite like-minded agencies motivated by excellence and youth travel satisfaction. Nowadays, more than ever, it is important to help maintain high quality in the industry and the workshops WYSE Travel Confederation offers will also help our staff gain knowledge and also grow together with the youth travel sector.

Have you attended a WYSE Travel Confederation event? If so, what was your experience with the event?

Yes, I attended the WETM-IAC in Seville this year and was able to meet many WYSE members. The experience was very positive and it made me realize that the bonds made during this conference with like-minded peers have developed a strong sense of fellowship and comradery.
We are glad to say that we will be attending the WYSE fair in Edinburgh in September. See you there!

What is an industry challenge your organisation is facing at this time?

At this time we are facing a daunting challenge convincing students that this is an investment for their future, becoming a citizen of the world through top-notch internships, breath-taking study travel tours and superb language lessons are what head hunters are looking for. The emotional and professional growth students experience during their immersion in AIP will last a lifetime.
