YouthTravelandSerbia-coverInternational youth travel is very important for Serbia, and in particular the city of Belgrade. Lonely Planet ranked Belgrade fifth in its ‘Top ten best places to be in 2015’ list and the number of hostels in Belgrade has increased dramatically in the last few years, reflecting the rapid growth in youth tourism demand.

WYSE Travel Confederation’s research has found that the majority of young travellers from Serbia are students (64%) and their main purposes for travelling are language learning and work experience. The most popular destination is the United States.

Young travellers visiting Serbia are typically on holiday (65%) and visiting the country as part of a longer trip through Eastern Europe. Independent hostels are the top choice of accommodation for young visitors in Serbia (51%).

In preparation for the 25th World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in Belgrade, Serbia, 20-23 September 2016, WYSE Travel Confederation has published, Youth Travel and Serbia, a free report outlining the key characteristics of the in- and outbound youth travel markets for Serbia and the potential that exists for this up-and-coming youth travel destination.
