Kevin May, co-founder of Tnooz recognised TravelStarter, the only worldwide crowdfunding platform for tourism, as the most promising and original startup among those present at the Travel Disruptor Pitch at ITB Berlin 2015.
After pitching the travel-tech start-up to the ITB Berlin panel, co-founders Anuška Cerovšek Beltram and Blaž Jemc were able to see TravelStarter announced as a winner of the Travel Disruptor Pitch and Innovator’s Panel in recognition of its goal to connect and aid local entrepreneurs in the local travel industry.
TravelStarter combines tourism and crowdfunding, allowing travel companies to promote their projects to cash supporters in exchange for travel-based rewards once the project has accomplished its goal. Co-founder and COO of TravelStarter, Blaž Jemc, stated that the company’s slogan ‘Dream, Fund, Experience’ reflects its mission to help local travel entrepreneurs worldwide to achieve their dreams.
“Everyone is dreaming to open a hostel on an island – with TravelStarter dreams are coming true!” claimed Jemc at the Travel Disrupter Pitch in Berlin.
The start-up currently promotes thirteen projects from the UK, France, Portugal, Croatia, Slovenia, Thailand and the Phillippines, and The Safehouse Hostel has been the first of these to achieve their dream.
Daniel Wimpelberg, founder of The Safehouse Hostel in Wales said “The support we received from the team at TravelStarter has been a huge part of us reaching our target. We are so happy to have reached 100% on our campaign. With the money we’ve raised through TravelStarter we can now finish the building to a higher quality and restore some of its original features, like another marble fireplace we’ve just discovered under layers of paint.”
