Initiative: Climate Change and Youth Travel

Toolkit Checklist

Need a step-by-step guide to help you put environmental responsibility at the top of your organisation's agenda?

WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY
  • Read a copy of our industry guide.
  • Spread the word. Send friends and colleagues electronic copies of our industry guide, available on our website.
  • Ask your administrator to start using recycled or FSC paper in the office. When creating printed marketing materials, ask your printer to use recycled products and sustainable inks.

WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK
  • Promote the importance of environmental responsibility on your website. If you’re not sure how to say it, download our pre-written text.
  • Give travelers tips on environmentally responsible travel habits, and link to existing responsible travel resources on the web.
  • Ask your administrator to contact recommended organisations about reducing waste and energy usage in your organisation.
  • Elect a sustainability “task force” your organisation to become your in-house environmental experts.

WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS MONTH
  • Send responsible travel leaflets out as part of a “customer packet” or print travel tips on your envelopes.
  • Start publishing information on carbon costs, and tips on carbon reduction on your website.
  • Download carbon calculators from our website, giving your customers an option to offset their travel or even their energy usage in their homes.
  • Partner directly with a reputable offset organisation, to implement offsetting as part of your business model.

WHAT YOU CAN DO IN SIX MONTHS
  • Develop sustainable trips by choosing responsible travel destinations, activities, and businesses.
  • Promote responsible travel destinations or businesses.
  • Promote customer involvement in environmental responsibility, via contents, blogs, or viral marketing campaigns.
  • When purchasing giveaway items, make them useful ones. Look for sustainable co-branding opportunities, like books like Code Green or the Ethical Travel Guide.

WHAT YOU CAN DO BY NEXT YEAR
  • Become a carbon neutral organisation.
  • Lead the way to show other organisations how to follow your example.
